Applications close for Reception and Junior School Places on Sunday!

If your child is going to start Reception in September 2023, or is currently in Year 2 at an Infant School and due to move to a Junior School, you'll need to apply for their school place by Sunday.

Warwickshire County Council is urging parents and carers to submit their application by the deadline, which applies to children born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019, applying for a place in a Reception class in September 2023. The 15 January deadline also applies to children who are currently in Year 2 at an infant school, who want to move to a junior school. This transfer does not happen automatically, even between schools with the same name.

Have you given any thought to which schools you’ll include on your application form? You don’t have to use all your six choices, but we do recommend you use at least three of them to increase your chances of getting a place at one of your preferred schools.

Applications should be made online at: www.warwickshire.gov.uk/primaryplace. All parents and carers who apply by the deadline will receive their child’s school offer on National Offer Day, 17 April 2023.

Applications that don’t meet the 15 January deadline will only be considered once those submitted on time have been given offers, by which time many schools will be full, and the child is much less likely to be offered a place at their preferred school.

Cllr Kam Kaur, portfolio holder for Education at Warwickshire County Council, explains:

“Starting school for the first time and moving to a junior school can be a big transition, but it doesn’t need to be scary for parents or carers. The best thing you can do is to get your application in by the deadline of 15 January. To help you do this, we’ve got lots of advice and support on our website, including a video to guide you through the process and a handy directory of schools where you can find all those that are local to you.”

There is extra support available to help you get ready for making the application, including an animated video with guidance on how to choose schools. More information can be found here and for further advice and support, to watch the guidance video or to submit an application, visit: www.warwickshire.gov.uk/primaryplace.
